The First Day of My 60th year!

Today is my 59th birthday and I feel like the luckiest person in the world. My family and friends sent me lots of birthday wishes. I love the fact that people took their time to think of me. I do not deserve such happiness, but am glad for all of God's blessings.

My wonderful husband took me to dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Ft. Worth. We had a fun dinner celebrating. I thought about all the birthdays we have celebrated together. I met Bob when I was 18 and we were dating when I was 19 so this is the 40th year we have celebrated my birthday together. The first year we went to Brennan's Restaurant in Houston. From the time I was 5 years old my daddy had always taken me out to a fancy restaurant for my birthday. I got all dressed up and we had a special time. The first year we went to a restaurant that had a big elephant outside. I can still remember it from when I was five. I wore a dress with lots of petticoats and the waiter was very nice to me! The last years were a little weird because people looked at us as a couple instead of father/daughter. I think my daddy was glad to have Bob take me out, but it was a bit sad for me at the same time.

I have celebrated birthdays in Houston, Washington, D.C./Virginia, Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, Germany, Arlington TX, Paris, and London to name a few places. Each one has been special! I look forward to next year for my 60th birthday - end of this year of memories for me.

My goals for this year are to get in shape (every year!) and record memories for my family. Then in the summer of 2013 the family will celebrate together in Besancon, France and biking down the Danube River from Passau, Germany to Vienna, Austria. I have been saving since my 50th birthday for this trip and it should be lots of fun!

Although, as my friend Chris says, we are not young women anymore, I do not feel at all old. I am having fun with my family and friends. I have many things to accomplish and work to do. I love teaching and never wish I was not working. I hope I am making a difference. It is my service and my desire to help our 11 and 12 year old at Corey Elementary be the best they can be!

So, with a joyful heart I am starting my adventures for the year! I can't wait to see what fun things happen! Of course, I have many plans for the year - seeing my children (Brian, Phuong, John, Kelli, Bill, and A-K) and my grandchildren (Michael, Quinn, Caroline, and Baby Besancon to be born in June) as much as possible. I am so proud of all of them! I have many adventures planned for Bob and me - travel, biking, golf, games, and worship. What a lucky woman I am to have a husband who is my best friend!!

I hope you enjoy reading my blog and sharing my adventures and memories!

  4. I understand why it is hard to post. It is like the blog has a life of its own and tempts you get on and blog while it taunts you. Scary! I am determined to overcome the fear and blog away even though I missed day 2. I think I may be able to keep up with every other day!
