While Bob was out of town tonight, I stayed at work until time for Weight Watchers. After the meeting it was time for dinner so......what to eat? I decided a hamburger was just the thing, but from where? Whataburger is where we always eat out burgers. I get a number 7 with no pickles and an unsweetened ice tea. I wanted some awesome fries and that is not Whataburger's specialty. Chapp's has the best fries in Arlington or maybe anywhere, but I would have had to get out of the car and go in to order. Nope. Not happening. Decided on Sonic - a purely financial decision since I had some Sonic gift cards and I could eat for" free". Turned out the fries were average and the ice tea was fine (saved by SONIC ICE!) and the hamburger was just as good as Whataburger's. Got a shake for dessert - couldn't finish it, though.
I do remember the first time I ever heard of McDonald's. I was in high school - must have been about 15 or 16. Someone told me you could go to a store and get a hamburger. I had never heard of such a thing. Then my mother took me to get a meal. Amazing since we never ate out! It was the beginning of my panic attacks at restaurants where you have to stand and order in a hurry. I have no idea what I ordered, but my mother must have not been impressed with the experience since I do not ever remember going back! We did frequent the Jack in the Box at Memorial City Mall, though, after we went shopping. There was a two taco deal and we always split it. I do not recall ever getting a drink. I know we always got the same thing and went through the drive through. Maybe my mother had those same attacks! I know my daddy never ate fast food very often since he liked to go in and sit down to order. Again, maybe no one liked to have to order quickly!
Over the years I have eaten at many hamburger restaurants. Worse by far is Burger King. Wendy's is all right. Chapp's is great, but not a drive-through chain. McDonald's is below average as is Dairy Queen (for hamburgers, Blizzards are still amazing). Sonic is average and Whataburger is great. There are others, but we do not go to them.
Tonight may have been my last hamburger ever, though, since I read about pink slime that is in hamburger meat. I am done with drive through hamburgers! What about you?
But Mom, the Hungrbuster, the Beltbuster, the Dude!!
ReplyDeleteGood post about burgers, ma. It reminds me of when was tired in Austin and ordered a Jumbo Jack at Wendy's. The staff was all waiting at the window to greet me and have a good laugh.
ReplyDeleteSo DQ wins the hamburger-naming contest if not the taste test! Beltbuster does sound more enticing than #5.
ReplyDeleteThis is why you should come eat at kincaid's with us. Kel will even eat there because they use beef from free range grass eating cows
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else find it ironic that all of this happened on the way home from a weight watcher's meeting? Btw, I'm not judging since I just ate two bundt "cupcakes"...just noting the irony. :)
ReplyDeleteKelli, I wondered if anyone would comment on that. :)
ReplyDeleteJohn, I did not know that about Kincaid's. Alas, it is not a drive thru. Now I am going to check on the beef used at Chapp's!
